Speak Up in Dutch

Practice day · Speak Up in Dutch

A safe practice day for internationals who want to present, talk and try things out in their own way.

Speaking in another language

Let’s be honest…
Speaking in another language takes courage.

Especially when it’s not just small talk by the coffee machine, but about your expertise.
Your vision.
Your story.

Maybe you get by just fine.
But you sense there’s more in you.

More freedom.
More nuance.
More you.

That’s why dr. Audrey Rousse-Malpat and Eva Pantelakis are organizing Speak Up in Dutch.

A safe practice day, one full day.
To talk.
To try.
And to grow, in your own way.

No perfect sentences needed.
Just curiosity.

Are you ready?

Who is this day for

For internationals with a B1 level of Dutch who want more than just getting by.
For those who want to:
  • present about their own expertise
  • explain ideas clearly
  • participate in conversations with more ease
  • make themselves heard, without losing themselves
No tricks.
No pressure.
Just practice, feedback (if you want it) and a warm, supportive setting.

“It exceeded my expectations. I came with the hope of presenting better to a Dutch audience, and I left with the conviction that I’m already giving my best – and that I can play an active role, even with my current level of Dutch.”

Susana Figueroa · Project Manager · UMCG Research BV

What can you expect?

A day full of:

  • practising in pairs, trios and small groups
  • space to introduce yourself or present something

You get to choose: do you want feedback, or mainly just practice?

This keeps it safe, personal and attentive.

“This training was an absolutely brilliant experience! The concept is innovative. Eva and Audrey’s coaching is exceptional, providing a safe and supportive environment that I have never found anywhere else. A unique opportunity to truly improve.”

I came into the day a little tense, because speaking remains loaded even after 18 years of speaking Dutch. And now? Now I actually look forward to speaking in front of groups.

What I learned here: the richness of your own culture and language is not a handicap, but an asset.

Eva has a unique way of helping you discover the joy of speaking within yourself. Gentle, loving and powerful at the same time. Throughout the day I felt what is already going well, and that alone gives you wings.

My biggest insight of the day: don’t speak what people want to hear, but the way you want to tell it.

Christina Garmann · Supervisor and Coach · De Kompasnaald

What do you take home?

  • More freedom to speak.
  • More self-confidence.
  • Concrete, tailored exercises that work for you.
  • More scientific knowledge about learning another language more effectively.
  • A wonderful, connecting experience with new people who support you.
  • Inspiration for more delicious French or Greek dishes.

In short: You go home energised, with the feeling that more is possible than you thought.

This day is guided by

Eva Pantelakis

Presentation trainer & voice coach

Eva has been helping professionals speak with calm, enjoyment and impact for more than 15 years.

With her background in theatre and singing, she combines structure with playfulness. She knows how daunting visibility can be. She was once shy herself.

Her strength? Creating a safe setting where you dare to practise and grow.

dr. Audrey Rousse-Malpat

University lecturer & writing coach

Audrey teaches Language Acquisition at the University of Groningen and guides academics in writing clearly, vividly and personally.

She works from the principle of Writing to Learn: writing as a way to deepen insight and connection.

Her knowledge of language acquisition and her warm teaching approach make her the ideal guide for anyone who wants to feel more confident in Dutch.

Together they bring:

  • years of stage experience
  • a strong feel for language
  • scientific knowledge
  • extensive teaching experience
  • psychological safety

And above all: a love of (self) expression.
